Augusta Awaits: The Masters 2026
The Masters is here! There’s nothing quite like April at Augusta National Golf Club. The azaleas are in bloom, the Green Jacket is waiting, and for four days, the golf world slows down to watch history unfold.
The 2026 Masters runs April 9-12 and whether you’re tuning in for the traditions, the drama, or just the beauty of Augusta, here’s your ultimate guide to one of golf’s most iconic events.
The History
The Masters was established by legendary amateur golfer Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts.
The inaugural tournament was held in 1934. It was originally called the “Augusta National Invitation Tournament” before being renamed to reflect its growing prestige.
The Green Jacket
The ultimate prize at The Masters is the Green Jacket. Since 1949, the winner has been awarded the jacket in Butler Cabin by the previous year’s champion. The Green Jacket is exclusively worn by Augusta National members and past Masters champions.
Fun Fact: Only the reigning champion is permitted to remove their Green Jacket from Augusta National, and only for one year. All other jackets remain on club grounds.
Magnolia Lane
Before a single shot is hit, players drive down Magnolia Lane, Augusta National’s iconic entrance framed by towering magnolia trees. This symbolic entrance marks the beginning of Masters week and is one of the most photographed spots in golf.
Fun Fact: Magnolia Lane stretches approximately 330 yards from the entrance gate to the clubhouse.
The Course
Augusta National is known for its dramatic elevation changes. The par-72 course measures just over 7,500 yards, but its difficulty lies more in precision and approach play than sheer distance.
The greens are famously fast and heavily contoured, rewarding players who demonstrate creativity and touch around the putting surfaces.
Amen Corner
One of the most talked about stretches in golf is Amen Corner. This refers to holes 11, 12, and 13. These three holes frequently determine the outcome of the tournament.
The 12th hole, Golden Bell, is especially famous. Though it measures just over 150 yards, swirling winds and Rae’s Creek make it one of the most challenging short holes in major championship golf.
Many Masters tournaments have been won or lost at Amen Corner.
The Champions Dinner
On Tuesday evening of Masters week, past champions gather for the Champions Dinner.
The defending champion selects the menu, often incorporating dishes from their home country or personal favourites. This tradition celebrates the international nature of the game and adds a personal touch to Masters history.
The Par 3 Contest
The Par 3 Contest takes place on Wednesday before tournament play begins. Players compete on a scenic nine hole course in a relaxed atmosphere. Family members often serve as caddies, and children sometimes participate in the fun.
The Par 3 Contest highlights the joy and camaraderie within professional golf before the intensity of the championship begins.
What Makes Augusta Unique
Augusta National maintains a distinctive atmosphere during Masters week.
Corporate branding is minimal throughout the property. Concessions are famously affordable. Mobile phones are not permitted for patrons during tournament rounds.
The result is an environment that feels traditional, focused, and entirely centered on the game.
Augusta National Women’s Amateur 2026
Masters week began with a dramatic finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Maria Jose Marin captured the title at 14 under par after a decisive moment at the 12th hole shifted the championship in her favour. The Colombian junior shot 68 in the final round and set a new tournament scoring record.
The annual Women’s Amateur continues to showcase the future of the game and has quickly become a cornerstone of Augusta week!
